Ingredients

  • GREEN CHUTNEY:
  • 1/2 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1/4 cup chopped mint leaves
  • 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 serrano pepper, remove seeds, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, chopped
  • 1 tsp chopped ginger
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • TILAPIA:
  • 1 TBSP minced garlic
  • 1 TBSP minced ginger
  • 1 TBSP ground cumin
  • 1.5 tsp ground coriander
  • 1.5 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup plain whole milk Greek yogurt
  • 1 pound tilapia fillets
  • OPTIONAL EXTRAS:
  • Lemon Slices
  • Chopped Cilantro

Directions

  1.  To make the Green Chutney, place all the Chutney ingredients into a dish and stir together.  Let sit for 15 minutes then blend in a blender, blend until it becomes a thick paste.  Transfer to a serving dish and set in the refrigerator.

  2. Put the garlic and ginger in a mortar & pestle and grind into a paste then transfer to a bowl. Add the cumin, coriander, garam masala, turmeric, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, and salt and stir until well combined.  Stir in the lemon juice and yogurt.

  3. Place the fish in a shallow dish and coat well on both sides with the spice mixture.

  4.  Set the broiler to HIGH and adjust the rack to its highest position.  Line a baking sheet with foil and place the fish in a single layer on to the foil.  Place the fish under the broiler for about 8-12 minutes or until thoroughly cooked and well browned on top.

  5.  Place the fish on a serving platter and top with lemon slices and chopped cilantro.  Serve with the green chutney.
