Keema Matar (Ground Beef and Pea Curry)

Ingredients
- 1 TBSP olive oil
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 medium garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp freshly minced ginger
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 tsp garam masala
- 1 TBSP curry powder
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 2 TBSP tomato paste
- salt & pepper
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup frozen peas
- steamed rice and/or naan bread for serving
Directions
- Heat the oil in a dutch oven or large saute pan over medium heat.
- Add the onion, garlic, and ginger to the pan and cook, stirring occasionally, until onions begin to soften, about 3 minutes.
- Add the ground beef to the pan and cook while breaking it up until no longer pink, about 5 minutes.
- Add the garam masala, curry powder, cayenne, tomato paste, and 1 tsp salt. Stir to combine and cook for about 1 minute.
- Add the water to the pan. Bring to a boil then reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Stir in the peas and simmer for 3 more minutes or until sauce is desired consistency. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
