In a dutch oven or large pot brown the sausage over medium heat until cooked through, about 6 to 8 minutes. Remove the cooked sausage with a slotted spoon and set aside.
Add the orzo, garlic, onion and butter to the pot, cook and stir for 2 minutes. Slowly pour in the chicken broth and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring often, for 8 to 10 minutes or until liquid is absorbed.
Take off the heat, return the cooked sausage to the pot and stir in the parmesan cheese. Add salt and pepper to taste.
