Easy Homemade Crusty Bread

Ingredients

1 cup warm water
1 packet (1/4 ounce or 2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
3 cups all-purpose flour plus a little extra
1 tsp salt

Directions

1. In a stand mixer or large bowl add the warm water. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let sit 10 minutes or until it begins foaming.

2. Mix in the flour and salt. Mix in a stand mixer with a dough hook for about 5 minutes or knead by hand until stretchy and slightly sticky.

3. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and sprinkle on a generous amount of flour. Form dough into a dome shape and place on the parchment paper, sprinkle more flour on top of the dough. Cover loosely with plastic wrap and set in a very warm place for 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until it about triples in size.

4. Preheat the oven to 450 F.

5. When the oven is preheated place a roasting pan or rimmed baking sheet at the bottom rack of your oven and pour in 1 cup hot water.

6. Remove the plastic wrap from the dough (you may need to reshape the dough into a dome again). Using a sharp knife cut a couple deep slashes in the top of the dough. Place the baking sheet with the dough on the top rack and bake for 30 minutes or until well browned.

7. Allow to cool for 15 minutes before serving.

Notes & Tips

To give your bread more flavor add dried spices such as garlic powder, oregano, basil, etc. About 1/2 tsp or so for each one you add.
