Slow Cooker Lemon Chicken and Orzo

Lemony chicken thighs and orzo pasta prepared in your slow cooker. Easy and delicious.

Slow Cooker Lemon Chicken and Orzo recipe

3 pounds bone-in chicken thighs and/or legs, skin removed
1 large yellow onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, peeled and minced
2 TBSP unsalted butter
1 tsp lemon zest
2 TBSP fresh lemon juice
3 cups water
salt & freshly ground pepper
1 pound uncooked orzo pasta


1. Place the chopped onion in the bottom of a 6-quart slow cooker then lay the skinless chicken on top.

2. Mix the garlic, butter, lemon zest, lemon juice, water, 1 tsp salt, and 1/2 tsp pepper in a bowl then pour into the slow cooker over the chicken.

3. Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 4 hours.

4. Take the lid off the slow cooker and transfer the chicken from the slow cooker to a plate then use two forks to pull the chicken from the bones into bite size pieces. Discard the bones and return the chicken to the slow cooker.

5. Stir in the orzo then place the lid back on the slow cooker and cook, stirring occasionally, about 30 minutes or until orzo is cooked.

6. Season with additional salt & pepper to taste.

Delicious. I used chicken legs, added a little chopped parsley and a few chilli flakes and half the quantity of orzo which worked well for us!!
