Green Onion Tartlets

Green onions and creamy egg custard in a pastry crust. Great for a sophisticated party, baby shower or eating on your couch in sweatpants.

1/2 cup butter, softened
3 oz cream cheese, softened
1 cups flour
dash cayenne pepper
1 bunch green onion, sliced thin
3 large egg, lightly beaten
1 1/2 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
dash nutmeg
dash cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp kosher salt
pinch white pepper


1. Prepare the dough: In the mixer with the paddle attachment cream butter and cream cheese until smooth. Add the cayenne and gradually beat flour into creamed mixture. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate 1 hour or until firm enough to handle.

2. Whisk all the FILLING ingredients in a bowl. Pour into a large measuring cup with a spout and set aside.

3. Preheat oven to 350° F.

4. Shape dough into 1-in. balls; flatten and place in greased mini-muffin cups. Using your fingers, press evenly onto bottoms and up sides of cups.

5. Stir the filling and pour into each cup.

6. Bake for 25 minutes.

7. Allow to rest for 5 minutes then transfer them to cooling rack over a baking sheet. Turn the oven up to 450° F.

8. Bake 6 more minutes or until the edges begin to brown.

9. Serve

Notes & Tips

To Make Ahead: Dough can be made 2 days in advance.
Freeze option: Freeze cooled pastries on waxed paper-lined baking sheets until firm. Transfer to resealable plastic freezer bags. To use, reheat pastries on ungreased baking sheets in a preheated 350° oven 14-16 minutes or until lightly browned and heated through
