Long Boy Burgers

What would happen if a cheeseburger and meatloaf had a baby? You would get a Long Boy Burger, an open-faced cheeseburger baked in the oven.

Ingredients

1 pound ground beef
3/4 cup cornflakes, crushed
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1/4 cup milk
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
2 TBSP tomato paste
1 TBSP Dijon mustard
4 6-inch sub rolls cut in half lengthwise
4 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded


Directions

1. Preheat the oven to 450°F and line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.

2. In a large mixing bowl combine the ground beef, cornflakes, egg, milk, Worcestershire, garlic, onion, salt, and pepper. In a separate small bowl mix together the tomato paste and mustard.

3. Lay the sub buns cut side up on the baking sheet and toast in the oven for about 3 minutes.

4. Take the buns out of the oven and spread the meat mixture evenly on top of the buns, make sure the meat is spread to the edges of the buns to prevent the buns from burning.

5. Spread the tomato paste and mustard mixture evenly over top of the meat.

6. Place in the oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until meat is cooked through, an internal temperature of 160°F.

7. Remove the burgers from the oven and top evenly with the shredded cheese.

8. Bake for 3 to 4 more minutes or until cheese is melted.
