- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
- 4 cups all-purpose flour plus a little extra
- salt
- 1/4 cup plus 1 TBSP olive oil
- 1 pound peeled tomatoes
- 1/2 tsp dry oregano
- 1/2 tsp dry basil
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 8 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
- optional toppings of your choice
Directions
- Mix the water, milk, and yeast together in a large mixing bowl. Stir in the flour and 1 tsp salt until well combined and a dough is formed.
- Knead the dough by hand on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes.
- Pour the 1/4 cup of oil into a 14-inch deep dish pizza pan or cake pan. Tilt the pan to coat the sides and bottom of the pan in the oil.
- Roll out the dough to fit inside the pan all the way to the edges and lay the dough into the pan.
- Brush the top of the dough with the 1 TBSP of oil then loosely cover the dough and let sit in a warm place to rise for 90 minutes
- Add the peeled tomatoes, oregano, basil, garlic, and 1/4 tsp salt to a food processor or blender and blend until smooth.
- Pour the tomato sauce into a container then cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
- Preheat the oven to 475°F.
- Take the sauce out of the refrigerator then uncover the pizza dough and spread the sauce evenly on the dough.
- Sprinkle 6 ounces of the mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce then add your choice of toppings and sprinkle the remaining cheese on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven until cheese is bubbly and outer crust is crisp and lightly browned, 17 to 20 minutes.
