- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp caraway seeds
- 1 cup raisins
- 1 large egg
- 1 1/4 cups buttermilk
- butter and/or sliced cheddar cheese for serving

Directions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F. Lightly flour a baking sheet and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl stir together the flour, baking soda, salt, caraway seeds, and raisins.
- In a separate bowl whisk together the egg and buttermilk.
- Pour the liquid mixture in with the dry mixture and stir until well combined and a dough is formed.
- Lay the dough mixture onto the baking sheet and form into a thick circle roughly 7-inches in diameter. Use a serrated knife to cut a shallow X in the top of the dough.
- Bake in the preheated oven until browned on top and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom, 20 to 25 minutes.
- Allow the bread to cool for about 20 minutes then slice and spread with butter or top with cheddar cheese.
