INGREDIENTS

  • 1 1/2 pounds uncooked bratwurst (about 5 sausages)
  • 6 ounces beer of your choice
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 tsp coriander
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp mustard powder
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp black peppercorn
  • 2 tsp kosher salt
  • 2 TBSP apple cider vinegar
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 TBSP olive oil



DIRECTIONS

  1. Put all the ingredients except the oil and onion into a large pot and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  2. Reduce the heat to medium-low then cover the pot and simmer for about 25 minutes.
  3. Remove the brats from the pot then dry them with a paper towel.
  4. Heat the oil in a cast-iron pan over medium-high heat until very hot.
  5. Add the brats and onion to the pan and cook, occasionally flipping the brats, until browned.


Notes

Serve with Sweet Mustard Mayo and/or Spicy Mustard on the side.
