A healthier homemade pizza dough made with whole wheat flour. Makes 1 large 16-inch pizza dough or 2 medium 11-inch pizza doughs.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 3 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 TBSP plus 1 TBSP olive oil



DIRECTIONS

  1. Add the water to large mixing bowl, sprinkle the yeast on the water and stir to combine. Stir in the whole wheat flour, salt, and 2 TBSP of olive oil until well combined and a dough is formed.
  2. Knead the dough in the bowl by hand for about 5 minutes.
  3. Roll the dough around with your hand to form a smooth ball then transfer the dough ball to a large clean bowl. Drizzle 1 TBSP olive oil over the dough ball and flip around a few times to coat the dough in the oil.
  4. Loosely cover the bowl and set in a warm place to rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  5. Punch down the dough and stretch it to fit a large 16-inch pizza pan or 18x13-inch baking sheet or 2 11-inch pizza pans.
  6. Top with your favorite sauce and/or toppings and bake in a 475°F preheated oven for 14 to 17 minutes or until crust is lightly browned.
