Whole Wheat Flour Tortillas
servings: 4
total time: 45 minutes
Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups whole wheat flour plus a little extra
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 4 TBSP unsalted butter, melted
- 3/4 cup warm water
Directions
- Mix the flour and salt together in a large mixing bowl.
- Stir in the butter and water until thoroughly combined and a dough is formed.
- Use your hands to bring the dough together then roll the dough into a ball.
- Loosely cover the dough ball and set aside at room temperature for 30 minutes.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal size pieces and roll the dough pieces into balls.
- Working one at a time flatten a dough ball into a disk with the palm of your hand and lay it on a piece of parchment paper big enough to fit an 8-inch tortilla. Use a rolling pin to roll out the dough into a very thin circle roughly 8-inches in diameter.
- Heat a large cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat until hot. When the pan is hot lay a tortilla in the pan, making sure its completely flat, and cook for about 30 seconds on each side or until bubbles begin to form.
- Continue making tortillas the same way with the remaining dough.
