Bring a saucepan of water to a boil over high heat.
When water begins to boil take the egg out of the refrigerator and use a slotted spoon to submerge the egg in the boiling water. Place a lid on the pan and cook for exactly 6 minutes.
Prepare a bowl of ice water while the egg cooks.
After the egg has cooked for 6 minutes use a slotted spoon to transfer the egg to the bowl of ice water and set aside for 2 minutes to prevent further cooking.
