Add the milk, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1/4 tsp black pepper to a large saucepan and bring to a slight boil, stirring often to prevent the milk from scorching, over medium heat.
When the liquid just begins to boil stir in the uncooked macaroni.
Place a lid on the pan then reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer, once again stirring often to keep the milk from scorching, until pasta is tender, about 10 minutes.
Take the pan off the heat then gently stir in the shredded cheese until well combined.
Taste and season with additional salt & pepper if needed.
