Ingredients
- 16 ounces Medjool dates, pitted and chopped
- 2 cups hot water, divided
- 1 1/2 cups distilled white vinegar
- 10 TBSP (6 ounces) tomato paste
- 1 TBSP smoked paprika
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp dried mustard
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
Directions
- Place the dates and 1 cup of the hot water into a food processor or blender and blend until smooth. Scrape mixture into a medium size saucepan.
- Stir the remaining 1 cup of water and the rest of the ingredients into the saucepan with the date mixture and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, about 30 minutes.
- Take off the heat and allow sauce to cool to room temperature.
- Transfer sauce to jar or container with a tight fitting lid and refrigerate for about 12 hours. Makes about 3 1/2 cups of BBQ sauce.
