Mushroom Onion Bacon Pizza with a Garlic Parmesan Crust
An overindulgent homemade pizza consisting of a homemade parmesan cheese pizza crust slathered with a homemade tomato sauce, topped with crispy bacon, mushrooms, onion, and a pound of mozzarella cheese.
Add the peeled tomatoes to a large saucepan or pot and crush using a potato masher.
Add the salt, garlic, basil, and oregano to the tomatoes then bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
Reduce the heat to medium-low then cook, occasionally breaking up the tomatoes, until the sauce has thickened, about 1 hour.
TOPPINGS:
Heat the diced bacon in a skillet over medium heat, stirring often, until crispy, then transfer the bacon to a plate keeping any bacon fat in the pan.
Keep the skillet over medium heat then add the mushrooms and cook, stirring often, until well browned, about 6 minutes.
DOUGH:
Mix together the yeast, honey and warm water in a large mixing bowl then stir in the flour, salt, and 1 TBSP of the oil and continue to stir until a dough is formed.
Knead the dough in the bowl by hand until smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes.
Form the dough into a ball and drizzle the dough with the remaining 1 tsp oil then loosely cover the bowl and set aside for 30 minutes.
Roll or stretch the dough out onto a lightly oiled 16-inch pizza pan or 18x13-inch baking sheet.
Sprinkle the Parmesan cheese all over the top of the pizza dough.
ASSEMBLY AND BAKING:
Preheat the oven to 450°F.
Spread the tomato sauce evenly onto the pizza dough.
Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese evenly onto the tomato sauce.
Top with the sliced onion, cooked bacon, and mushrooms.
Bake in the preheated oven until crust in lightly browned and crispy, 16 to 20 minutes.
