Heat the oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat.
Add the orzo, garlic, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1/2 tsp black pepper to the pan and cook while stirring for about 30 seconds.
Stir in the water and bring to a boil then reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer uncovered, stirring often, about 7 to 8 minutes or until the liquid has been absorbed and the pasta is tender.
Take the pan off the heat and stir in the Asiago cheese until well incorporated then season with additional salt & pepper to taste.
